Role

Using your generalist commercial legal expertise to provide best in class legal advice to a growing financial services organisation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, managing legal risks, and supporting strategic projects. Responsibilities also include:
  • Provide expert legal advice on banking, corporate, and financial services, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations like the Corporations Act and Banking Act.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, oversee strategic initiatives, and manage legal risks in collaboration with risk and compliance teams.
  • Support governance functions by preparing board papers, advising on director duties, and ensuring sound corporate governance.
  • Handle disputes and litigation, liaising with external counsel as needed. Engage with internal stakeholders, senior executives, and regulators (e.g., ASIC, APRA) to deliver clear, practical legal guidance.
This role is critical in supporting strong customer outcomes, fostering sound governance and mitigating risks in a dynamic regulatory and business environment.

Skills & Experience

The role demands an exceptional legal professional who can drive a clear vision and strategic considerations, takes initiatives in continuous improvement, provides outstanding stakeholder services, and nurtures the capability of others. As well as the below:
  • Admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales with a current practicing certificate.
  • Minimum of 5-10+ years of post-qualification experience in banking, finance, or corporate law with strong retail banking expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of financial services laws and regulations, including ASIC and APRA frameworks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating complex legal documents.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines, apply the law confidently and enjoy dealing with uncertainty and change.
